Fault is History, The (CD)

Description For mainstream hip-hop artists, "street credibility" often consists of nothing more than peppering their songs with violence and cursing. Christian hip-hop artists travel a much more precarious artistic path—how to maintain their connection to the street while creating music that will appeal to both to a secular audience as well as believers who often know little of authentic hip-hop culture? So give props to Souljahz for crafting a masterful debut that mixes several urban music styles without pandering to pop crossover or selling short its Gospel content. But just when you think you've got them pegged, a rap will give way to an explosive gospel chorus; a rock-tinged verse will blend into a retro-dance chorus or a soul-tinged melody will make a powerful lyric such as "The Color Hate" slightly easier to digest. In fact, there's bristling social commentary discernable on much of The Fault Is History, also notable in tracks such as "Beneath the Surface," "Poor Man" and "Same Ol' Game." Happily, Souljahz's call to its listeners to take responsibility for their lives begins with encouraging them to first consider the claims of Christ.Track Listing: 1. Let Go 2.
